John F. Kennedy once stated that “The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of your contribution. When you work to improve the lives of others, your life improves automatically.”
I think these words perfectly embody the importance and beauty of giving back to the community.
Contrary to what you may imagine, volunteering does not involve working for others without receiving anything in return. Quite the opposite!
Donating your time to enriching society is a great way to broaden your perceptions of the world. It also gives you a fulfilling sense of purpose, bringing concrete physical and mental benefits. According to statistics, people who volunteer during their lifetime typically live longer and have better psychological well-being. Finally, giving back to the place you call home allows you to expand your network and better understand the circumstances of other members of your community while training some of your soft skills like patience, kindness and resilience.
On the other hand, your efforts can make a huge impact on the lives of less fortunate neighbors and a lasting difference in society. Spending your time helping other people will contribute to uniting the community and bridging some of the social, economic and political gaps.
Nordson has a long and proud history of giving back to the communities where we live and work. The company strongly believes it is our responsibility as corporate citizens to share our success with our communities. For this reason, they donate 5 percent of U.S. pre-tax profits to support charitable endeavors every year. As the company grows, they continue to positively impact more people each year through volunteering, donations, scholarships and more.
To endure the cause, Nordson initiated six community engagement programs that together create The Nordson Impact:
- Nordson Corporation Foundation
- Time ‘n Talent
- A Time to Give
- Nordson BUILDS Scholarships
- Matching Gifts
- Nordson Corporate Donations

As part of the Nordson Corporation, we at NDC need to do our part as well.
The NDC's leadership team recently volunteered at Shepherd's Pantry to support the local community in Glendora, CA. The Shepherd’s Pantry provides numerous services (haircutting, clothing store, homeless food program, reading and math tutoring, Christmas Toy Store, community food baskets, Summer Reading Camp, emergency voucher program, health fair and a school supply) to support those individuals and families struggling to make ends meet.
Our team is grateful to have been able to lend a hand to this organization. A few hours can make a difference!

When we talk about supporting people in need, we cannot help but think of those who are currently paying the consequences of a terrible war. When the conflict in Ukraine started earlier this year, many Nordson employees stepped up to help support those in need through donation drives and volunteering their time to help. To conclude this blog post, I would like to share with you how employees are making a Nordson Impact and helping those affected by the crisis.
